Like many of the other networks, the fall schedule of TV shows for ABC includes
less reality this season and more of the sitcoms and dramas that people seem to
be moving back towards. Though the network again gives Wife Swap a try on
Monday nights, the always-popular Monday Night Football seems to be a lock to
help ABC continue the ratings success that they have had on that night. Outside
of Wife Swap though, ABC is moving towards entertaining with some veteran
sitcoms and familiar dramas that should continue boosting the overall morale
and popularity of the network.

Two shows that need no introduction are According to Jim and George Lopez, which
anchor the 8PM slots on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, respectively. Both have been
incredibly successful in past years and should help to boost ratings on those
nights. Tuesdays will also see Rodney and Commander in Chief debut, alongside
Boston Legal, with enough lawyer drama to spare. Freddie Prinze, Jr. also
debuts his own series Freddie on Wednesdays, just before last season’s
blockbuster hit show Lost. With Alias and Night Stalker holding down the
Thursday primetime hours, the network seems poised to cash in on those faithful
followers to some of the past successes.

During the week ABC stands strong, but their Sunday night schedule for the fall
is enough to have networks execs chomping at the bit and waiting anxiously for
ratings – in a good way, of course. Last season saw the rise to power of
Desperate Housewives, a trend that should only grow with the emergence of many
of the show’s stars around Hollywood this summer. Extreme Home Makeover: Home
Edition also returns to precede Housewives on Sunday nights, a strong show that
guarantees viewers. Grey’s Anatomy rounds out the Sunday night schedule. With
these kinds of juicy shows, ABC stands poised to takeover the airwaves this
fall—and is anything but desperate.
