America has a problem with obesity. Is that news to anyone out there? With all
the fast food and junk food available throughout the country, this shouldn’t be
a surprise to anyone out there. America is gradually getting fatter and fatter
and struggling to maintain a healthy weight. People think that celebrities are
immune to these problems though. Surely, everyone in Hollywood is pencil-thin
and maintains a good weight, right? Wrong! VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club has proven
that celebrities are not immune to the weight issue surrounding America. In
fact, many of them need to lose just as much weight as most Americans and
struggle to do so. By exposing this side of Hollywood though, VH1 is helping to
show that even celebrities are not risk-free when it comes to maintaining a
healthy lifestyle.

The basic premise of Celebrity Fit Club is simple. Actors, musicians, and other
Hollywood folks—ranging from “The Snapple Lady” to Kim Coles to Daniel
Baldwin—all participate in a public weigh-in at the beginning of the series.
Throughout the series a set of personal trainers and motivators set goals for
the celebrities to meet week-after-week. The goal is to gradually lose weight
using exercise and healthy eating habits, not through diet pills and miracle
weight-loss schemes. By showing viewers how celebrities are human and can lose
weight normally, people can see the hard work that it takes to lose weight,
while at the same time seeing that it can be done.

Celebrity Fit Club tackles the issues of obesity and unhealthy lifestyles in a
dramatic way that often catches some celebrities off guard. Many expect to be
pampered or for the training to be easy. It isn’t though! The celebrities are
exposed to tough regimens and drastic changes. While it’s all fun to watch
celebrities struggle, it also proves that no one is above a healthy diet and
exercise. America has a problem, but it can be fixed with some hard work and
with some Fit Club.
