He was a comedic icon for the better part of the 80’s. He was a part of the Saturday Night Live phenomenon in the 70’s as well as part of the 80’s. Yes, Dan Aykroid has fallen from the spotlight a little, but it’s Dans movie history that we should remember. Why not? He is a part of some of the most quoted and re-watchable movies of all time. Sure, the Caddyshack II’s of his career are inexcusable, but the successes and laughs far outnumber those yawns.

Funny, quotable, and an undeniable classic, The Blues Brothers is Dan’s movie trademark. With sunglasses and a dark suit, Akyroid brought the Saturday Night Live skit to life in an over the top and funny movie classic. Originally a semi-flop in the theater, the movie’s quirky dialogue and silly plot lines worked in tandem with the classic music tracks and cameos to become a huge comedic and musical classic. Though grossing only around 64 million dollars, the movie has become a must have in the DVD and VHS collection in frat houses everywhere.

Dan’s biggest movie credit in the mainstream, though, is likely the quotable classic comedy, Ghostbusters. Aykroyd both wrote and starred in the 1984 film that also included comedic stars Bill Murray, Rick Moranis, and Harold Ramis. The film grossed over 220 million dollars and continues to be popular even today. Aykroyd was able to combine the genres of thriller and comedy with great success. Dan’ movie career will likely always be highlighted by the Ghostbusters phenomenon. The movie even led to a sequal that, while not nearly as popular, was able to gross over 112 million dollars itself. Dans movie career, while up and down, has been able to bring some of the most quotable and lasting comedic movies of the 1980’s.

Actually in the case of the Jennifer Aniston starring “Rumor has it…..”, that is not entirely true as it’s a slight twist on “The Graduate”, as the rumor of the title pertains to a rumor that Anniston’s character is the granddaughter of the woman who the original novel was based upon. To bring matters up to date Anniston’s character finds herself embroiled in a history repeats itself type of affair.
Also bidding for the Christmas box office revenue will be “All the kings’ men” a politically idealistic based film starring Sean Penn and Kate Winslett amongst others.
Finally, November sees the release of rapper 50 Cent’s debut movie vehicle “Get Rich or die tryin’”, a semi autobiographical tale of a drug dealer going straight after taking up rapping. Following a very similair path to Eminem’s 8 Mile high, it’s hard to see this 50 Cent not getting rich at the box office!!
