No, you aren’t seeing things. That really is the fall schedule of FOX shows. At
first glance, the new FOX lineup appears to be missing many of the reality
series that the network has become renowned for. However, FOX has revamped its
fall lineup and added a whole bunch of new shows that should stir up some
excitement when added with their already full stable of comedies. Of course,
shows like The Simpsons and Family Guy make their return to FOX Sunday nights
and serve as staples for the post-football crowd. However, some of the weekly
additions are just as interesting as these old veterans of the TV game.

Thursday nights for FOX usher in The O.C., probably FOX’s most popular show last
season and poised to regain that title again this fall. That 70’s Show hits on
Wednesday nights and again brings about a sense of familiarity that should win
back the old fans of the show. Monday nights look the most interesting on paper
though, as Arrested Development starts off the night and is followed up by
Kitchen Confidential and Prison Break, two new FOX shows that bring viewers
into two totally different worlds – behind the stove and behind bars.

When The Bernie Mack Show and Malcolm in the Middle are moved to Friday nights,
it seems clear that FOX is attempting to sweep that night’s ratings over the
more conventional shows being offered by other networks. With 2 of the funnier
comedies on TV, the network should do just that. You are seeing a shift from
reality to sitcoms and dramas on FOX this season though, a trend that seems
universal across all of the networks this season. Depending upon how they do,
look for FOX to continue opening up its bag of tricks this season and well into
the spring. You aren’t seeing things. FOX just continues to branch out and
grow.
